16/02/11 - FRNSW deal with gas leak in Gordon
Published: 16th February 2011
At 9.00 am this morning the crew from Gordon responded to a gas leak in Gordon. On arrival crews found that workmen had ruptured a 60 ml gas line, and needed to evacuate 12 residences and 30 workers to a safe distance of 200 metres. With assistance from Forestville fire crew, firefighters then set up a hose line to disperse vapours and provide fire protection, with crews wearing breathing apparatus. Police set up road diversions, and the gas company stopped the leak shortly after their arrival. Fire crews then obtained gas readings before allowing residences and workmen back into their houses and workplace. All up it was a protracted incident, taking 4 hours before it was finally made safe.
