Smoke Alarm saves family at Wyalong
Published: 10th January 2011
A working smoke alarm is responsible for saving the lives of a father and his 2 young sons in Wyalong early this morning. The father reported being woken just after 1.00am by the smoke alarm, to be confronted with a house full of smoke and intense heat. After feeling his way to his sons bedroom, he was able to wake them and escape through a side door. In his own words, the house exploded behind them as they made their escape. Due to the intensity of the fire, crews from West Wyalong fire station, plus the RFS, concentrated on saving neighbouring properties, including a church and church hall on one side. Though the original house was totally destroyed by fire, their were no lives lost and the neighbouring properties were saved.
