Truck fire closes F3 for short period
Published: 11th May 2010
A truck fire closed all north bound traffic on the Sydney Newcastle F3 freeway this morning at around 8.30am. The large B Double truck was carrying cement products when a fire occurred in the engine compartment just north of the Mt White Truck checking station. NSWFB Fire crews from Kariong, the Hazmat crew from Berkely Vale together with RFS crews took 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze. Fuel had to be decanted from the fuel tanks in order to render the situation safe. The F3 was closed to all traffic for about 30 minutes during the firefighting operations and one lane north bound was re-opened at 9.05am. At the conclusion of the operation the remainder of the lanes were re-opened by 11.18am.
