Building fire Hillsdale

This afternoon firefighters from Matraville and Maroubra were responded to a building on fire in Smith St, Hillsdale. Firefighters en route identified a large amount of smoke in the vicinity of the address and called for more resources. Firefighters from Botany, Mascot, Randwick, Wollahra, Kogarah and Duty Commander Georges River responded to assist. The first firefighters were on scene within five minutes to find a large derelict building on fire. A rapid fire attack was commenced. Other firefighters used hoselines to cool neighbouring buildings to stop the fire from spreading. The fire was brought under control in approximately half an hour. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
