Major factory fire Revesby
Published: 8th August 2009
This evening firefighters from Revesby responded to a call of smoke in the vicinity in Mavis St Revesby. Additional Triple Zero calls were received by the fire brigades Sydney Communication Centre, and as a result firefighters from Riverwood were responded as backup. Initial reports from firefighters indicated a column of smoke was coming from a wrecking yard and the response was immediately upgraded. The fire quickly took hold due to the high fuel loads. Approximately 100 firefighters were required from a wide area of Sydney to battle this large and difficult fire. Additional water was pumped by a relay of fire engines from Canterbury Rd to provide the large quantity necessary to extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control by just after midnight. Evacuations from a nearby club were carried out as a precaution due to the smoke. Firefighters did a great job to minimise the spread of this fire under very difficult conditions.
