Historic hotel fire in Katoomba
Published: 29th July 2009
In the early hours of this morning, firefighters from Katoomba, Leura and Wentworth Falls responded to a fire in an historic hotel in Katoomba. On arrival a fire was located in a guest room on the first level of the hotel. The heat from the fire had activated the sprinkler system, all but putting out the fire. Firefighters ensured that the fire had been fully extinguished and finalised the evacuation of the hotel. Smoke was removed from the remainder of the hotel using portable fans. Investigations concluded that the fire had started from a candle in a guest room catching a curtain alight. It is a timely reminder of the danger of leaving candles unattended. The two guests staying in the room sustained minor injuries and were transported to hospital.
