Pyrmont car fire

Forty residents were evacuated from an apartment building in Harris Street, Pyrmont, because of a fire early this morning. Firefighters from Pyrmont, Glebe, City of Sydney, the Rocks and the Duty Commander responded to the fire, with the first crews on scene in six minutes. One car was on fire in a car park underneath the residential unit block causing smoke to fill the car park. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire and the building was ventilated before residents were allowed to return to their units. One person was taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
