Nowra Fire Brigade wins second round of 2009 NSWFB Firefighter Championships

Nowra Fire Brigade was declared the winner of the second round of the 2009 NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) Firefighter Championships series, held in Dubbo on 2-3 May.NSWFB Commissioner Greg Mullins, who was in Dubbo for the Championship, congratulated the retained firefighters from Nowra Fire Brigade on their outstanding performance.
"The team from Nowra is a consistently strong performer at the Firefighter Championships, and this weekend was no exception with the team finishing 260 points ahead of their nearest rival - the Rural Fire Service team from Kootingal.
"The firefighters from Delroy Fire Brigade put a lot of effort into preparing to host the weekend of competition and this was reflected in the great weekend of competition."
Commissioner Mullins said engaging with the community about fire safety was a key element of the NSWFB Firefighter Championships and the role of the modern firefighter.
"On Sunday, the NSWFB held its annual Open Day, with fire stations across the state open to the public, providing residents with a chance to see the inner workings of a fire station and to pick up vital fire safety tips ahead of winter.
"Firefighters from Delroy and Dubbo hosted a fantastic Open Day event at Ollie Robbins Oval, attracting hundreds of visitors."
