Firefighters from Abermain, Weston, Kurri Kurri, Cessnock and the Duty Commander responded to a house on fire in Maitland Street, Abermain this evening. The first fire crews were on scene in seven minutes to find flames leaping from the rear of the property with the fire spreading rapidly in the single level house. Fire crews protected the neighbouring properties while working to contain and extinguish the fire but were unable to enter the house as there were reports of firearms and live ammunition in the area.
