Car wrecking yard fire in Revesby
Published: 20th April 2009
Numerous Triple Zero (000) calls were received this afternoon alerting the NSW Fire Brigades to a fire in a car wrecking yard in Violet Street, Revesby. Firefighters from Revesby, Bankstown, Riverwood, Chester Hill, Liverpool, Kogarah, Lakemba, Cabramatta, Hurstville, Sutherland, Lidcombe, Hazmat specialists from Greenacre and the Duty Commander responded to a fire. The first crews were on scene in six minutes and found an area twenty metres by ten metres, with cars stacked up to six metres high, ablaze. Firefighters used a hydraulic ladder fire engine and numerous fire hoses to contain the fire. Thirty people were evacuated from the surrounding area as fire crews worked to extinguish the fire. Hazmat crews monitored both the smoke and water run off from the fire and reported no problems. It took several hours to extinguish the fire and an excavator was used to pull apart the cars allowing fire crews access to smouldering fires. The cause of the fire is being investigated
