REGIONAL FIRE COMMANDERS WELCOMED TO TAMWORTH

Published: 18th April 2009

Country Labor MLC, Christine Robertson, this morning welcomed NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) station commanders from 21 New England fire stations to Tamworth for their annual conference.

Ms Robertson gave the opening address at the two-day conference, which began with a breakfast this morning.

"Conferences like this provide local NSWFB station commanders with the opportunity to get together and learn about new NSWFB initiatives," Ms Robertson said.

"Knowledge in areas such as fire presentations, IT, training and recruitment can be shared, thereby improving the ability to service local communities.

"It is also an opportunity for the new Director Regional Operations, Assistant Commissioner Jim Hamilton, and the zone management team to hear first-hand about local issues and challenges and to discuss the future direction of the NSWFB."

Ms Robertson thanked the firefighters for the great work they did in their communities across the New England on daily basis.

"Many of the firefighters here in Tamworth this weekend are retained, or on-call, firefighters, who devote many hours outside of their regular jobs and family responsibilities to protect their local communities.

"Retained firefighters, together with their full-time colleagues, are vital to NSWFB operations across regional NSW and their dedication and commitment is crucial to ensuring the safety of residents in hundreds of communities throughout the state," Ms Robertson added.
