Fuel leak in Young

Published: 3rd April 2009

This evening fire crews from Young responded to leaking fuel in Nasmyth Street, Young. Firefighters were on scene in nine minutes and reported fuel had overflowed from a tank. Hazmat specialists from Turvey Park responded to assist while the spill was covered with foam to prevent ignition. Firefighters used gas detectors to continually monitor the area for any build up of fumes. Thirty people were evacuated from the area and a private recovery team was arranged. On their arrival approximately 7000 litres of fuel was recovered. After a final check with gas detectors the area was declared safe and the evacuated people allowed to return.
