Residential unit fire
Published: 14th March 2009
Numerous Triple Zero (000) calls were received late this evening to a fire in a three level apartment building in Simpson Street, Auburn. Firefighters from Lidcombe, Parramatta, Silverwater and the Duty Commander responded to the emergency with the first crews on scene in six minutes. Four bins in an underground car park were alight with smoke entering the residential units above. While firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the fire other crews assisted with evacuating 60 residents. Once the fire was out firefighters ventilated the building and used gas detectors to ensure that the atmosphere was clear. Residents were allowed to return when it was safe. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
