Basement fire in Drummoyne

Published: 14th March 2009

This evening firefighters from Drummoyne, Balmain and Hazmat specialists from Greenacre responded to a fire in a building in Lyons Road, Drummoyne. The first crew was on scene in four minutes to find smoke coming from the basement of a multi story commercial and residential building. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus used a thermal imaging camera to locate the source of the smoke; an electrical switchboard on fire in the second level basement. Five people were evacuated while crews extinguished the fire and used positive pressure fans to ventilate the basement. Hazmat crews used detectors to check the air quality and when it was clear allowed the people to return.
