2006 Firefighter Championships: Day 2 of competition

Published: 23rd October 2006

Day two of the NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) 2006 State Firefighter Championships in Port Macquarie saw teams battle it out in three events. In a day of new beginnings and fond farewells, the historic hose reel event was run for the last time. This event has been replaced by the new 'booster valve' competition, which reflects current firefighting practices.

The Commissioner of the NSWFB, Greg Mullins, welcomed hundreds of school children to watch the competition and participate in Fire ED, the NSWFB fire safety and awareness program. The students enjoyed rescue and firefighting displays and were wowed by the fireball produced by the Kitchen Fat Fire Simulator.

Commissioner Mullins also took the opportunity to remind Port Macquarie residents that the November 1 deadline to install smoke alarms in all homes and places where people sleep is fast approaching.
