Pedestrian bridge collapse in Maitland
Published: 5th March 2009
This morning firefighters from Maitland, East Maitland, Hazmat specialists from East Maitland and Newcastle, a senior instructor and the Duty Commander responded to Les Darcy Drive, Maitland. On arrival crews were confronted with a pedestrian bridge that had collapsed onto the road, trapping two trucks and a car. Fortunately the occupants of the vehicles were able to get out of their vehicles and only minor injuries were sustained. Fire crews dealt with a spill of hydraulic oil and remained to assist and provided fire protection while a crane was brought in to lift the bridge. The bridge was cut up into sections so that it could be removed. The highway was closed during the incident.
