Building fire in Cessnock

In the early hours of this morning firefighters from Cessnock, Bellbird, Kearsley, Abermain, Branxton, Hazmat specialists from Maitland, the Duty Commander and a Senior Instructor responded to a building on fire in Hall Street, Cessnock. Fire crews arrived to find a single storey building engulfed in flames and a nearby building under threat from the rapidly advancing fire. The priority was to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and contain the blaze. Firefighters battled for two hours to contain the fire and saved surrounding premises. The building, which was a dry cleaning premises, suffered extensive damage and engineers were called because of possible structural collapse. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
