Published: 26th February 2009

Firefighters from Darlinghurst, The Rocks and the Duty Commander responded to scaffolding that had moved in Castlereagh Street in the CBD this afternoon. Crews arrived to find the bottom levels of the scaffolding covering a multi storey building under construction had bulged out towards the street. All people from the immediate area were evacuated and crews remained on standby as there was a possibility that the scaffolding would collapse. A structural engineer was requested and after an inspection of the site and in consultation with Police firefighting resources were released. Castlereagh Street between Market and Park Streets is closed because of this incident.
