House fire in Shortland

In the early hours of this morning firefighters from Mayfield West, Wallsend, New Lambton, Hamilton and the Duty Commander responded to a house on fire in Sandgate Road, Shortland. Fire crews were on scene in eight minutes to find the rear of the single level property ablaze. While crews extinguished the fire other firefighters carried out a thorough search of the house. There was a partial roof collapse and firefighters confirmed that no people were inside. The house was severely damaged in the blaze.
