Published: 3rd February 2009
Fire crews responded to an automatic fire alarm to a five level building in Oxford Street, Surry Hills late this evening. Firefighters from City of Sydney, Darlinghurst, Redfern, Pyrmont, Hazmat specialists from Alexandria and the Duty Commander attended the emergency with crews on scene in five minutes to find a fire in a first floor supermarket. The fire was quickly extinguished but smoke had travelled through the supermarket and the buildings sprinkler system had operated. Firefighters used large fans to clear the smoke and removed excess water from the area.
