Fire in Kensington

Firefighters responded to an automatic fire alarm at a university in Botany Street, Kensington this evening. Fire crews from Maroubra, Alexandria, Mascot, City of Sydney, Hazmat specialists from Alexandria and the Duty Commander attended the emergency with the first crews on scene in seven minutes. Crews found a fire in a laboratory that had been contained by the building's sprinkler system and quickly extinguished the blaze. After consulting with specialist staff and Hazmat firefighters checking with gas detectors that there were no harmful products fire crews were able to assist clean up to minimise further damage.
