Firefighters from Warrawong and rescue fire crews from Shellharbour and Wollongong were called to a single vehicle accident in Windang this morning. A car had collided with a water main and power pole, trapping a person inside the vehicle. Firefighters extricated the person while the water authority shut off the main and the electrical authority isolated the power to the damaged pole. In another incident firefighters from Bonnyrigg Heights and the Duty Commander responded to Allambie Road in Edensor Park where a car had crashed into a house damaging a domestic gas main. Fire crews in breathing apparatus set up a fire hose for protection and evacuated 10 people from nearby residences. The gas company isolated the gas main and after the car was removed a final check was carried out by firefighters with gas detectors.
