This afternoon firefighters from Riverwood and rescue fire crews from Liverpool and Bankstown responded to an accident on the M5 motorway near Fairford Road. The accident, involving a number of trucks and cars, required firefighters to extricate two people who were trapped. The injured people were taken to hospital and when the vehicles were removed firefighters completed the clean up. To the north firefighters from Hornsby, rescue firefighters from Gordon and Hazmat specialists from Greenacre responded to an accident on the F3 Motorway. Crews had to extricate one person, who was taken by helicopter to hospital, deal with a fuel leak and cool acetylene cylinders. When it was safe the cylinders were submerged into hazmat bins filled with water, rendering them safe.
