Published: 28th November 2008
This afternoon firefighters from City of Sydney, Darlinghurst, Pyrmont, Redfern, The Rocks, Glebe, Newtown, Hazmat specialists from Alexandria and senior officers responded to a fire in a fast food outlet on the corner of George and Liverpool Streets, Sydney. Numerous Triple Zero (000) calls were received and the first fire crews were on scene within minutes to find smoke billowing from the ground floor and from the top of the six level building. The fire, which was in the kitchen, was quickly brought under control while fire crews carried out a search of the upper smoke logged levels. A hydraulic ladder fire engine was used to give access to the roof as firefighters checked for any fire spread through the kitchen exhaust system. The kitchen was severely damaged with the upper unoccupied levels suffering smoke damage. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
