Scaffolding collapse in Bankstown
Published: 22nd November 2008
Bankstown's fire engine and rescue fire engine along with specialist NSW Fire Brigades rescue officers and the Duty Commander responded to scaffolding that had collapsed in Stanley Street, Bankstown this afternoon. On arrival firefighters were confronted with six levels of scaffolding that had partially fallen onto an adjacent apartment block. Thirty people from the immediate area were evacuated because of concerns of further collapse and an exclusion zone was established. In consultation with engineers, Workcover, crane operators and the District Emergency Management Officer firefighters brought down the front section of the scaffolding and secured the rear to make the area safe.
