Truck crash at Orange
Published: 17th November 2008
Firefighters from Orange, Bathurst, and the Duty and Zone Commanders responded to a truck crash on Cadia Road near Orange this evening. On arrival at the scene, firefighters found that a B-double semi-trailer carrying 24 tonnes of ammonium nitrate emulsion had crashed on to its side, spilling around five kilograms of the substance. The truck driver had already removed the prime mover away from the overturned trailer. A 500 metre exclusion zone was set up, with seven people evacuated and the road closed by NSW Police in both directions overnight. The site was secured and fire crews returned the following morning to commence the recovery operation. Firefighters decanted the contents of the trailer into another tanker and two cranes were brought in to right the trailer. Firefighters remained on scene and rendered the scene safe with the road reopened and residents permitted to return to their homes later the following day.
