Train derailment

On Sunday 14 January 2007 the NSW Fire Brigade responded to a train derailment about 3kms from Euabalong West in western New South Wales.

The first fire crews to arrive were Lake Cargelligo and Condobolin who found a 26-carriage train with 15 carriages derailed over a one kilometre distance.

Two cranes were brought in to lift the derailed containers. The train was carrying herbicide and white goods and fire crews worked with the assistance of the DEC to clean up the spillage.

Crews worked to clean up the site in extreme heat with temperatures climbing to 43 degrees celsius requiring two shifts on a rotating basisl.

The following stations attended Temora, Delroy, Narrandera, Leeton, Hay, Hillston, Yenda, Parks, Junee and Grenfell.
