Large shed fire in Tenambit
Published: 14th November 2008
Numerous Triple Zero (000) calls were received this morning to a fire in a large shed in Metford Road, Tenambit. Firefighters from Morpeth, East Maitland, Maitland, Telarah, Hazmat specialists from Newcastle and Maitland and the Duty and Zone Commanders responded to the fire. The first fire crews arrived within six minutes to find a large shed engulfed in flames. As crews were working to extinguish the fire there was an explosion from inside the shed and it was identified that there were several cylinders, including acetylene, in the shed. An exclusion zone was established with nearby houses evacuated while firefighters continued to extinguish the blaze. A thermal imaging camera was used to monitor the temperature of the cylinders. When the fire was extinguished firefighters were able to safely deal with the cylinders. The fire caused substantial damage to several vehicles in the shed.
