New fire engine officially handed over to Bathurst's firefighters

NSW Fire Brigades (NSWFB) Acting Chief Superintendent David Felton met with local firefighters today to officially handover Bathurst’s new $500 000 fire engine.
Acting Chief Superintendent Felton said the new fire engine was a boost for firefighters and the community alike.
"The NSWFB is committed to ensuring that our frontline firefighters have the best equipment and latest technology with which to protect the community.
"This fire engine has been specifically designed for firefighting in built-up areas and will ensure that firefighters can continue to provide an outstanding service to the Bathurst and surrounding communities."
The vehicle is equipped with the latest technology including an electronic message board on the back to warn motorists of emergency operations and a GPS unit. The vehicle also complies with the latest Euro four emission standards.
Superintendent Steve McGuinness, Zone Commander for the Upper Hunter and Central West, said the new fire engine was a welcome addition to fire fighting resources in the Central West area.
"Firefighters have undergone training in the use of the new vehicle and have already responded to around 40 emergencies in and around Bathurst including house fires and car accidents."
During the visit, a number of firefighters were presented with medals recognisingdedicated service to the NSWFB.
