Physical Aptitude Test (PAT)
Firefighting is a physically demanding occupation. Common firefighting tasks include raising and lowering ladders, dragging hoses, carrying heavy equipment up and down stairs, and rescuing victims - all of which require a high level of cardiovascular fitness, agility, coordination/dexterity and muscular strength, power and endurance. The NSW Fire Brigades Physical Aptitude Test (PAT) has been designed to simulate actual firefighting tasks. This provides a method of assessment to assist in determining whether recruit applicants have the physical capacity that could be required of a firefighter in an emergency situation.
